2024 Volvo XC40 And XC60 Will Not Offer Front-wheel Drive Trim

There’s more movement in Volvo’s lineup. This year already saw the introduction of the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge with rear-wheel drive powertrains, more powerful motors and improved range, as well as the EX30 city crossover. Apparently, it’s time to eliminate some options. Car and Driver reports that his gas-powered XC40 and XC60 crossovers will no longer be available with front-wheel drive. The 2023 XC40 offers a B4 mild hybrid drivetrain with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that sends 194 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque to the front axle. That’s gone, leaving behind a 2.0-liter four-cylinder B5 AWD mild-hybrid powertrain that produces 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet. The B5 upgrade adds $2,000 to the cost. That means the 2024 XC40 will likely run you at least $39,645 before potential model year price increases. The 2023 XC60 is available in three trims. One of them utilizes a front-wheel-drive version of the aforementioned B5 mild-hybrid setup, while the other employs a B6 AWD mild-hybrid powertrain centered around a 2.0-liter with a supercharger and turbocharger .
